Walter was born in New York and married Isabell Parks (born 1829) of New Jersey. They came to Iowa in 1855. At least one of their ten children, Charles E., came with them; he was born in Fairfield Co. Ohio in 1849. He married Ellen Wellington and had 2 children: Mary B. and Ervill. Other children were Mary E., Arthur M., Alice I., John A., Sarah C., Sherman, Francis B. , William P., and Clarissa A. . This family lived on the Lowell road south of New London. Walter Bishop was ordained a methodist minister in New London in 1874, four years before his death. Walter's occupation was that of farmer and owned over eighty acres in the New London farming area.
