Margaret C. Smith was born in Alabama to J. B. Starnes, who was born in Tennessee, and Elizabeth Mattison Starnes, who was born in South Carolina.
Margaret was married first to Samuel J. Thompson on March 12, 1862 in Columbia County, Arkansas.
She married her second husband, Felix Clark Smith, on November 14, 1865 in Columbia Co., Arkansas.
Margaret died of influenza on February 5, 1925, in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, and was buried in Cache Cemetery in Cache, Comanche Co., Oklahoma, near Lawton Oklahoma. Robert Massie Co. of San Angelo, Texas was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
