Dorothy Larson Bryson passed away September 5th at the age of 82 from a lingering illness. She was surrounded by several of her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy was born in Dell Rapids, South Dakota in December 1923, the oldest child of Adolph W. and Klea Larson. They moved to Randolph, Utah when Dorothy was five. She graduated from South Rich High School as valedictorian. She attended Salt Lake Business College.
She married Chester Bryson on August 18, 1942. While Chester served overseas in the army, Dorothy worked at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. After World War II they settled in Hayward, California, where Chester went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and Dorothy worked 26 years in the Hayward Unified School District. They had three sons -- Kay, Craig and Patrick. Trying to make positive changes in the school district became her passion in life.
Dorothy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and worked many years with young people in The Church. She taught early morning seminary in California. She was Young Women's president for 10 years, first in the ward and then in the stake. She taught Gospel Doctrine class for 16 years. She also served as Relief Society president.
After retiring Dorothy and Chester moved to Payson, Utah, where they devoted the rest of their lives to their 23 grandchildren, who they dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kay Larson, and husband Chester and survived by her three sons, 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and sister Jerry Jackson of Salt Lake. Services will be held in Woodruff, Utah, Saturday September 9. Internment will be at Woodruff City Cemetery.
