David M. Armstrong, 63, has gone home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ after a short battle with an extremely rare form of cancer. He died at his home on Monday (May 23, 2005) at 6:30 p.m.
He was being cared for by his family and Tender Loving Care Hospice.
David was born May 13, 1942, to the late Edward Francis and Avis Mona Loudin Armstrong.
He retired in 2000 from Westinghouse/ NAPLC in Fairmont as a maintenance mechanic with 38 years of service.
He liked to camp, do small woodworking projects, do creative writing, tell stories to his grandchildren, and do genealogy research with his wife.
David and his wife were members of Fellowship Baptist Church from 1970-2001, and are now members of Victory Baptist Church in Fairmont, where David was a Sunday School teacher, church worker, and soul winner.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lee Collins Armstrong of 41 years, whom he married Jan. 11, 1964; a son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Brent and Shelli Armstrong of Anderson, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pastor Ken and Dawn Brummel of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Pastor Cary and Paula Grant of Cumming, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Benjamin, Jennifer, and Jonathan Armstrong of South Carolina, Joanna, Jennalee, Julia, Jillissa, and Joshua Brummel of Wisconsin, and Drew and Kyle Grant of Georgia; his father in-law and mother-in-law, Albert "Slick" and Blanche Collins; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, James and Deanna Humphrey; one brother, Donald of Fairmont; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Beverly Vandergrift of Florida, Nancy Starcher of Fairmont, Don and Mary Carrothers, Tony and Marles Moon, and Carolyn Joyner, all of Ohio; and a best friend, Ray Grubb.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry and Junior Armstrong.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. Friends may also call from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church, 1879 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with his son, the Rev. Brent Armstrong, officiating. Eulogies will also be given by the Rev. Bob Barker, the Rev. Ken Brummel, and the Rev. Cary Grant. Interment will follow at the Nuzum Cemetery at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victory Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or Tender Loving Care Hospice, Bridgeport.
