Darrell E. Baade, 68, long time North Platte resident, passed away April 2, 2009, at his home.

He was born Nov. 14, 1940, in San Diego, Calif., to Elmo and Marge Gammel Baade. He was raised in Malcolm, where he graduated from High School and then attended the University of Nebraska. He moved to North Platte to work at KNOP TV hosting the talk show "Studio Two." He married Bonnie Jensen Feb. 4, 1963. Later he managed KNOP/KAHL radio and was the voice of numerous radio spots. He was the longtime owner of the Pom Pom Ice Cream Parlor in the Mall. He worked for several years and retired from Nebraska Wine and Spirits in 2005. His musical talent was a big part of his early years and followed him through his entire life. As a young boy he played the trumpet and sang with the OK Jones Band in Lincoln. For many years he played bass guitar and sang with Mark V and Hadley Barrett and the Westerners. Whistling was a passion of his and he could always be heard on the downtown streets. He was a charter member of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo Committee serving for 12 years. Hunting, fishing and golf were his favorite hobbies and he enjoyed them to the fullest with his friends and family. Darrell was said to be the best guy you could ever know and was loved by everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Kim and Bob Redmon of Elizabeth, Colo., Kevin and Teresa Baade and Kathy Schreiber, all of North Platte, Kristy and Ron Lage of Arthur, Kraig and Michelle Baade of Centennial, Colo.; Grandpa Art Jones and Aunt Lucy Gammel, both of Lincoln; son-in-law, Rick Schreiber of Omaha; grandchildren, Ryan Baade, Jared, Wil and Georgie Lage, and Sophie Schreiber, Emily, Jensen, and Elizabeth Baade; great-granddaughter, Serenity Baade.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clifford and his Uncle Dale Gammel.

Mr Baade's grand daughter, Sophie, is my son's sweet friend. I adore her and she loves and misses her grandpa. So I built this memorial for her.
