Olive May Gilbert Chenoweth, daughter of Worth and Catherine Winfield Gilbert, was born April 6, 1876, east of Council Grove in Morris County, Kansas. She departed this life May 29, 1980 at Quinter, Kansas at the age of 104 years, 1 month and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to James Benson Chewnoweth on August 1, 1894, at the groom's home. To this union were born two children, Orval Chenoweth and Ruby Chenoweth Schultz. Both are deceased.
Mr. Chenoweth passed away, March 14, 1939, at their home one mile north of Gove which they purchased in 1905 when they moved to Gove County. Mrs. Chenoweth moved into Gove after the death of her husband.
Mr. Chenoweth was postmaster from September 19, 1913 to January 16, 1922 at Gove. Mrs. Chenoweth was assistant postmaster during this time.
She joined the Gove United Methodist Church, April 15, 1907. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and Gove Utopian Club.
Survivors include four grandchildren: Florris (Mrs. Monte Drury) of Arroyo Grande, Calif,; James Chenoweth of Woodrow, Colo.; Ona (Mrs. Robert Hiller) of Midland, Texas and Irven Chenoweth of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Lydia Burns of Quenemo, Ks.; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nephews and niecs.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at Gove with Rev. David Trott officiating, burial was in the Gove cemetery.
Music was furnished by Marie Beesley, Delores Parckard, Wilma Doxon and Marcia Roemer with Elaine Tustin as organist.
Casket bearers were Charles Anderson, Gail Beesley, John Zimmerman, Lawrence Wilson, Larry Litson and Frank Powers.
