Arlene Rose Hefner was born to Charles and Clara (Thomas) Hefner May 28, 1908 in rural Gove County in rural Gove County, and departed this life, April 18, 1981 at the L.T.C.F. at Quinter.

She was united in marriage to Fred Crippen May 1, 1927. To this union was born one son, Donald Eugene. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Fred; her son, Donald and he wife, Doris; three grandsons; two great grandsons and two brothers, Frank Hefner of Quinter, Kansas and Harvey Hefner of Santa Ana, Calif.

Arlene became a member of the Gove United Methodist Church on November 2, 1920. She played the piano for church for many years, sang for funerals and performed many more services in the church.

She was a charter member of the GFWC Clotilda Club of Gove, a member of the Gove Rebecca Lodge and an active member of many community affairs. She served two terms as Register of Deeds of Gove County and was deputy to this office and other offices of the county.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 1981, in the Gove United Methodist Church in Gove with Rev. David Trott officiating.

Singers were, Wilma Doxon, Doreen Mendenhall, Lydia Packard, Delores Packard and Nelda Beesley at the organ.

Casket bearers were, Louie Anglin, Raymoond Roemer, Gail Beesley, Leslie Kerns, Richard Roemer and Harold Lundgren.


Mrs. Fred (Arlene) Crippen, 72, of Gove, died Saturday, April 18 at the L.T.C.F., at Quinter where she had been a resident for the past number of years.

Arlene was born May 28, 1908 near Gove to Charles and Clara (Thomas) Hefner, both deceased.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gove, where she was organist for many years; a member of the Clotilda Club and the Gove Rebecca Lodge. She took an active part in social and church affairs.

She was united in marriage to Fred Crippen on May 1, 1927. One son was born to this union.

She is survived by her husband, Fred of the home, Gove; one son, Donald of Hill City; three grandsons and two great grandchidlren; two brothers, Frank Hefner of Quinter and Harvey Hefner of Santa Ana, Calif., and a host of friends.
