Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elder isaacson’s son, a victim of plio, was prayed over by his father and Presiding Bishop Legrand Richards, in the prayer the father pleaded with the Lord that if his son was spared he would do anything to serve Him. It wasn’t long before he was called as Second Counselor to Presiding Bishop LeGrand Richards and subsequently called as First Counselor to Presiding Bishop Joseph L. Wirthlin.
Elder Isaacson was later called as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve until he was called as a Counselor to President David O. McKay. Both he and Joseph Fielding Smith were called to these unnumbered positions making the First Presidency consist of five men at the time. This was occasioned by the unprecedented growth of the Church at a time when the President and his First and Second Counselors were slowed by the effects of age.
One of his most notable contributions is that which he did while working with adult Aaronic Priesthood holders in the Church, as well as chairman of the Church Historical Sites Committee and vice president of the Church Board of Education.
President Isaacson was released at the death of President McKay and then resumed his position as an Assistant to the Twelve until his death, which resulted from the long effects of a serious stroke.
