Willie Dee Cagle, 95, of West Drive, Cartersville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Cagle was born on Aug. 5, 1916 in Cherokee County, daughter of the late John Franklin Hughes and Frances Lillian Lewis Hughes. She retired from EZ Mills/Spring City Knitting where she was employed for some 35 years. She was the longest-standing member of Fields Chapel United Methodist Church at the time of her passing. She was loved by many and a friend to all.
Mrs. Cagle was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Arthur Cagle who passed away in 1959; a son, Arthur Neal Cagle Sr. in 1969; a grandson, Arthur Neal Cagle Jr. in 2009; a son-in-law, Robert L. Smith in 2001; nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, John L. Cagle Sr., and wife Phyllis of Kennesaw; two daughters, Diane C. Smith of Cartersville, Judy Culberson, and husband Johnny of Adairsville; nine grandchildren, Jan Randall of Cartersville, John L. Cagle Jr. of Hiram, Nina Strickland of Douglasville, Cindy Smith and Michael Smith, both of Cartersville, Kim Shepherd, Brandon Culberson of Minneapolis, and Brianna Culberson of Cartersville; 17 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Fields Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Hardy, Rev. Joey Hatchell and Rev. Ann Rex officiating. The body will lie in-state from 1 until 2 p.m. on Sunday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 18 from 4 until 9 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Ned Hillhouse, Jerry Hillhouse, Les Brackett, Larry Sweat, Brad Hughes and Rick Hughes.
Willie was alert and active until she was called home. Over the years she helped me with the Hughes Family History and we spoke often. She will be missed.
