Frank A. Agresta, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, passed away at his home on July 14, 2010 at the age of 77, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was born on July 22, 1932 in New Rochelle to the late Pasquale and Maria Christina (Stifano) Agresta. He is predeceased by his wife, the former Nina Donna Siragusa who died in 2006.
He was a product of the New Rochelle school system, received his undergraduate degree from Albany State Teachers College and his Masters degree from Columbia University in New York City. He served in the United States Army in Fort Eustis, Virginia and Fort Knox, Kentucky as a teacher. After continuing his teaching career on Long Island, he returned to New Rochelle and obtained a teaching position at Albert Leonard Jr. High School where he met his wife, Nina. As a young teacher he became father to three children and thought he and his family moved to Spring Valley in 1965. They returned to New Rochelle in 1977, where he continued to teach in the New Rochelle school system.
During his thirty-five years at New Rochelle High School, he taught American History and Journalism, was Senior Class Advisor, Yearbook Advisor, ran the Social Services Program, including many successful Thanksgiving Day Drives and Blood Drives. Was Advisor to the school paper, The Herald, coached the bowling and golf teams and assisted with the high school's football program.
In addition to his lengthy and significant teaching career and years of social service to his community, he was an expert carpenter and craftsman with a passion for creating in his extensive woodworking shop. Nina & Nipper Antiques, the business he created with his wife, was also a source of great joy and discovery for twenty-five years.
During the last seven years as his Parkinson's Disease worsened, he was lovingly cared for at home by his family.
He is survived by three children, Pat Agresta, Anthony Agresta, and Maria Dunleavy; a grandson Ryan and a sister Pauline Agresta.
He was truly a great teacher, an absolutely wonderful father, and a superb husband. May God look after him always.
Memorial Services were held on Saturday, July 31 at Mo's New York Grill, 14 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle, NY.
