Victim of Erysipelas After Ten Days Illness - Member of Wooddy Family.
Mrs. Mattie Lou Clark, age 55 years, died at her home four miles southwest of LaFayette in the Antioch community last Thursday afternoon about one o'clock following an illness of about ten days with erysipelas.
Mrs. Clark was the wife of J. W. Clark, Jr., prominent farmer of the Antioch community, and a member of one of Chambers County's best known families. Before her marriage she was Miss Mattie Lou Wooddy, and had lived in the Antioch community all her life where members of both the Wooddy and Clark families are active and identified with the Antioch Church. She united with the church at an early age.
Mrs. Clark had been ill for about ten days with erysipelas and her condition was not regarded serious until a short time before her death. The malady spread from a fever blister and gradually grew worse.
Funeral service was held from the Antioch Church on Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. E. U. Calvert, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Ceremony.
Surviving are a husband, J. W. Clark; five children, Helen, Willie B., Marian, Dorothy and James Clark; five brothers, Jim Wooddy, Opelika; Charlie Wooddy, Lanett; Tom O. Wooddy, Virginia, and Hugh and John H. Wooddy, both of LaFayette.
Pallbearers were Lomas Hinkle, Gordon Clark, Wilfred Wooddy, Wooddy White, Herbert Clark, Bernard Cotter, Phillip Clark.
