Cherrill Wells Czerwonky, 88, of Arlington, editor of "In Defense of Capitalism," died of kidney failure Sunday at Brighton Gardens retirement home in Arlington.
Born April 2, 1912, Mrs. Czerwonky received her formal education at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wis. She had been an Arlington resident since 1934.
Mrs. Czerwonky edited "In Defense of Capitalism" in 1938, co-authored by her husband, the late Hugo E. Czerwonky, and James Cromwell, former U.S. ambassador to Canada. In 1954, she researched, edited and arranged a speaking tour for her husband's book, "Freedom from Insecurity," which sought to reform tax laws and strengthen the Federal Reserve Board.
Mrs. Czerwonky volunteered for the American Heart Association and was a member of the Neighbors Club of Arlington and ST. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington, where she was a soprano soloist.
She also was a member and past officer of the Wisconsin State Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Washington Chapter of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Mrs. Czerwonky is survived by two sons, James of Arlington, and Arthur, of Atlanta; a daughter, Cherrill Cristman, of Atlanta; and six grand-children.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington, with a private family burial service at National Memorial Cemetery in Falls Church.
Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northern Virginia.
