Jeanette (Palmer) Auch was born in Martin County, Minnesota, near Granda on April 23, 1903, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Spain)Palmer. Her father was born at Paynette, Wisconsin. Her mother was born at Carthage, Missouri. When Jeanette was about 6, her family, consisting of three boys and three girls, moved by covered wagon from Granada, Wisconsin to Madison, Nebraska.

In the Spring of 1918, her parents moved to Scotland, South Dakota where they lived on a farm. Jeanette received the rest of her education in a rural school, then attended Southern Normal School at Springfield where she received her diploma and started teaching.

She met Emil Auch in Lesterville, Yankton County, South Dakota. They were married March 8, 1927. They lived in Lesterville a year, where their son Myrle was born. In the spring of 1928, they moved to Harrold, South Dakota. In 1930, their daughter was Ethel was born there.

In 1932 they moved to a farm in Hyde County, where the two children attended rural school, then went to Highmore High School.

In 1943, Emil and Jeanette bought their farm in Eagle Township. Jeanette then began teaching again, retiring in 1970.
