Elna (Person) Anderson was born in January of 1868 in Sweden. She came to the US about 1887. In 1887 or 1888, she married Hans Anderson, who was also born in Sweden and came to the US about 1885.
They both found work near Huron, Beadle Co., SD, before moving on to Colorado, where their first two children, (1)Alma 1888 and (2)George 1890 were born.
The family was back in Spink Co., South Dakota when daughter (3)Hulda was born in 1891. She was followed by (4)Olga in 1893, (5)Ida, in 1896, (6)Blenda in 1898, and son (7)Algert R. in February 1902.
From Algert's obit, apparently the last 5 children were born while living near Irving post office, in Lincoln township, Spink County. About 1905, the family then moved to a farm in Capitola township southeast of Doland, Spink Co., and in March of 1907, the father and children moved to a farm in Wheaton township, Hand County, South Dakota, southwest of Redfield. Elna had died in January of 1907, just two months before this move to Hand County.

Mr. Anderson of Wheaton township meets tragic death in Raging Waters..
While on his way to Miller Wednesday morning, Mr. Anderson of Wheaton township was drowned in the high waters of Wolf Creek. It is not known whether he attempted to cross a bridge and it gave way, or whether he tried to ford the creek, as there was no eye witness of the tragedy, but his cry for help was heard by a man not far away who hurried to the place where Anderson went under, but was unable to rescue him.
Mr. Anderson was driving a team and wagon, and the horses were carried off their feet and drowned also, as the creek was so high and the current so swift that they were unable to do anything to save themselves. Help was summoned immediately, and an attenpt was made to find the man's body, but at last reports this morning, the search had been unsuccessful. There is still considerable ice in the creek and the body is probably lodged underneath it. The bodies of the horses were found.
The victim of this tragedy is a farmer living on the eastern edge of Wheaton township, and the accident is made doubly sad in that it throws seven children out in the world homeless, as the mother died about three years ago.
April 7, 1910..
The body of Hans Anderson, the farmer who drowned in the northeast part of the county on March 8, 1910, was found last week by a farm hand, lodged against the shore of the creek.
The 1910 Census shows #2, son George as head of the household. (#1, Alma was not listed). The rest of the children were listed, with the youngest, being 8 years old. In addition, an UNCLE, Pete JOHNSON, was now living with them.
