Adam Armbrust
Birth: Nov. 3, 1847
Hassloch
Bad Dürkheimer Landkreis
Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
Death: Mar. 13, 1890
Cincinnati
Hamilton County
Ohio, USA

A native of Haßloch, Kreis Bad Dürkheim, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

Son of Adam Marcus Armbrust and Anna Katharina Gramlich.

Husband of Caroline Scheidt, daughter of Johannes 'John' Scheidt a native of the Pfalz area of Germany and Catharina Jung a native of Haschbach am Remigiusberg,Landkreis Kusel,Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. They were married September 10, 1874 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. She is buried at Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Despite knowing she could never rest beside her husband, as she was not a member of the Catholic Church, Adam Armbrust's wife, Caroline Scheidt Armbrust still had him buried in a Catholic Cemetery to honor him and his faith. She marked his grave with a marble gravestone which is upright and slopes from back to front. Perpetual care has been paid on his grave, so the marker his wife lovingly had placed should always be upright and maintained.

Father of Katherine Armbrust Grimm, wife of Frederick Grimm. Grandfather of Irma Grimm, Frederick Grimm, Elmer Grimm, and Rosalie Grimm Kuethe.

He departed Bremen and arrived in Baltimore aboard the ship Berlin on June 26, 1871.

Adam Armbrust was injured horribly when a stream of boiling lard poured over him while working at The Werk Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. His injuries were severe and permanent. He is the subject of a court case regarding this devastating occurrence, just two years after being married and less than a year after the birth of their first and only child.

The case can be viewed in depth in either of the following: Cleveland Law Reporter, 1878 Edition, Volume 1, page 314 or Ohio Law Journal, 1883 Edition, Volume 3, Page 158. These are readily available online.

Although well over 100 years ago, my sister and I were often told the details of the malfunctioning equipment, the horrible physical and mental scaring that resulted from the tragic incident which left him all but incapacitated from the age of 29 until his death in 1890 at the age of 42.
