PERRYTON - Jeanne Suitor Allen, 74, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Scott officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Jeanne was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Perryton. She attended Perryton schools.

She married Norman Allen on June 8, 1952, in Perryton. They lived in the Clear Lake area near NASA, where Norman worked as a scientist in the 1960s.

Jeanne was elected the first woman to serve in the vestry for St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in League City. She organized the newcomer's club to help the newly arriving wives find some sense of community.

She was a highly successful business woman. She opened the first upscale women's boutique in the Clear Lake area and then began a highly successful career in real estate.

Along with a friend, she established a prominent real estate business in the area. During her time in the Houston area, she served as a founder and chairwoman of the Lunar Rendezvous Festival, chairwoman of the Bay Area United Fund, Trustee of the Freeman Memorial Library Friends, chairwoman of the space division of the American Cancer Society and Chairwoman of the Houston Symphony spring concert.

She was chosen as the Outstanding Businesswoman of the Year in 1980.

After moving to Perryton in 1995, Jeanne quickly became active in the community. She served as treasurer of The Museum of the Plains for many years, vice president of the Perry Memorial Library board and was very active in All Saint's Episcopal Church. She will be long remembered for her white hair and shining spirit.

She also will be remembered as a beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend with the shining spirit, shocking mane of white hair, full-length mink coat and her wonderful sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Anna Mae Suitor.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Allen; a daughter, Cindy DeLong and husband Jerry of Irving; a son, Lex Allen and wife Barbara of Houston; and three grandsons, Lonnie Brasket of Irving, Michael DeLong of Valdosta, Ga., and Hunter Allen of Austin.

The family suggests memorials be to Museum of the Plains, 1200 N. Main St., Perryton, TX 79070; or a favorite charity.
