Baxter T. Morrison Sr., of Fayetteville, was born Nov. 14, 1933, and died Sunday, June 3, 2012. The son of a soldier, Baxter was born on Fort Bragg. He was drafted into the Army in November 1956 into the Military Police Corps. He was honorably discharged in November 1958 and promptly joined the Army Special Forces, serving in the original 200th Special Forces Group and later in the 11th Special Forces Group as an engineer sergeant, A-Team leader and operations sergeant major. He had more than 2,000 static line parachute jumps and one free-fall, which he performed on his 70th birthday. He officially retired from the Army in 1993 with 37 years of military service and the rank of master sergeant promotable as a master parachutist and with numerous military awards and decorations. He also worked with the Fayetteville Public Works Commission as a lift-pump station superintendent for 20 years and retired from PWC in 1998. Baxter was a very dedicated deacon at Lake Rim Baptist Church, where he headed many committees and projects. He was licensed as master electrician since 1973 and offered his services to anyone who asked and was still performing electrical jobs until just three months ago. He is survived by his wife, Estalene Rowell Morrison; his sons, Baxter T. Morrison Jr. and spouse Amy D. Morrison, Brian Timothy Morrison, Tony Franklin Blackwell and spouse Pamela Blackwell, David Blackwell and spouse Cindy Blackwell; his daughters, Barbra Jean Jones and spouse Hank Jones, Patricia Lee Hall and spouse Joseph E. Hall Sr., Teresa Grey Collins and spouse Tonzie Collins, Baxter Ann Johnson and spouse Ronnie Johnson, and the memory of Brenda Faye Smiling; his sister, Nancy Holland and spouse James Holland; and his brother, Jerry Doyle Morrison. Not to forget his squirrel-chasing companion, Ms. Missy. Baxter has 22 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren, and one on the way. He loved people; he was caring and kind, and gave without expectation of return, and never met a stranger. He donated more than 30 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross Blood Bank during his life. Truly the world will never be the same. He will be greatly missed by literally thousands of people. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Carl Rehrer officiating. He will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park with the rendering of full military honors. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
