Fortune Pope was the son of Catherine (q.v.) and Generoso Pope (q.v.), who was the first person of Italian descent to become a self-made millionaire in this country. Fortune took over the operation of Colonial Sand & Stone after his father's death in 1950. He also owned an Italian newspaper and a radio station. Fortune Pope's second wife was Cathy Mastice Pope (an accomplished singer), and his two children were Santina (by his first wife, Sandy) and Fortune Pope, Jr (adopted). His granddaughter is Alessandra Pope. Fortune was predeceased by his brother Generoso, Jr. (q.v.) in 1988. His other brother Anthony Pope died in 2005 and is also interred in the mausoleum. The Pope family mausoleum is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Central Ave. (the cemetery's main road) and Observatory Ave.
