Funeral services for Philip E. Applegate, 77, of 215 E. Missouri, will be held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon April 17, 1985 in the chapel of the Davis-Playl Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen McShane, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the services Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Mr. Applegate died at 7:30 Monday morning April 15, 1985 in his home.
The son of Henry W. and Fronie R. Eagle Applegate, he was born December 23, 1907 in Brashear. On May 12, 1929 in Kirksville he married Lillian M. Harding who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Aura (Rachel) Mitten of St. Charles; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Novakavich, Phyllis Jean Mahady, Joyce Wuelling, Philip Mitten and Mary Luetkenhaus and nine great-grandchildren.
As a child, Mr. Applegate moved with his family to Kirksville. He was a graduate of Kirksville High School. After his marriage he moved to Brashear where he lived until 1943 when he moved to Burlington, Iowa. In 1945 he moved to Kirksville where he operated a painting contract business until one year ago when he retired due to ill health.
He had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
Bearers will be Rankin Martin, Glen Green, Bur Beard, Brad Beard, Ben Beard and Sterling Reindel.
