Elizabeth (Bette) Tilt Albers
On April 27, 2011, Bette passed away at home. She was born in St. Joseph, Michigan, on October 4, 1915, and lived a full life for 95 years. She moved to Chicago after high school and lived at the downtown Allerton Hotel, which was then a rooming house, but is now a luxury hotel. She worked at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, while learning to be an x-ray technician. Later, she moved to Peoria, Illinois, where she worked at the Peoria State Hospital. In 1940, she married William C. Albers, and they moved to Battle Creek after WWII. For many years she worked as an x-ray technician for Dr. G. T. Patrick on College Street. She enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and MSU Spartan Basketball. She loved her two best companions, Muffy and Jazzy.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Albers, in 1985, and by her daughter, Linda L. Albers, in 2000. She is survived by a son, William C. Albers, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, and a daughter, Anne E. Albers (Dennis Wesner), of Williamston, Michigan.
The family would like to thank the many friends and caregivers who made Bette's life enjoyable the last few years and who made it possible for her to stay in her home, where she wanted to be. Visitation will be at Bachman-Hebble Funeral Service in Battle Creek on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. As Bette wanted, there will be no service. She will be buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery with her husband. Memorial donations may be made to Leila Arboretum, the Humane Society, or to the Disabled American Veterans.
