Shawn Beard, 46, Peru, died Sunday, May 27, 2007.
He was born on January 24, 1961 in Abilene, Texas to Judith K. and Harry R. Beard. On November 26, 1983, he married Michelle D. (Brewer) Beard.
He worked as a controller for Hayes Lemmerz in Wabash and as a volunteer varsity basketball and softball coach for Peru High School. His daughter, Bridgette K., a freshman, played for both teams.
Shawn graduated from Peru High School in 1979, for whom he starred in football, basketball, and baseball. Despite being hampered by a severe knee injury, he went on to play basketball for Manchester College. While at Manchester College he met Michelle who was also involved in sports.
On May 27, 1984, Shawn and Michelle were blessed with their first child, Benjamin, who was followed by Beau on January 28, 1986, and Bridgette K. on March 28, 1991.
Shawn's top priority was always his family, who he supported by working long hours. Despite working up to 90 hours a week, he coached all his children in sports from a young age, beginning with Benjamin in T-Ball, through coaching both sons in football, basketball and baseball, and continuing with Bridgette in basketball and softball. On Friday, May 25, 2007, he helped coach Bridgette and the Peru High School softball team to a sectional championship.
Shawn was known for his sharp wit, sense of humor, toughness, and as a strong leader.
He is survived by Michelle and their three children, his parents, his brothers Sheldon and Shannon, and sister Cathy Primerano.
