In Loving Memory

Marty Tobias was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 21, 1941, to Philip and Shirley (Lieberman) Tobias. When Marty was four years old, his beloved mother passed away and Marty went to live with his loving maternal Aunt and her husband, Anna and Mike Mueller. Marty spent his childhood in Brooklyn and vacations in Florida where he enjoyed fishing and the beach. He became a Bar Mitzvah in 1954 and took the Hebrew name Moshe. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1959. While in high school, Marty took a test that indicated that he had an aptitude for printing. Consequently, after high school he apprenticed as a pressman. Because Marty always liked cameras and photography, he gravitated towards lithographic camera work which became his life's career. After his apprenticeship, Marty joined the Army. He served in a printing unit for six months and then the Reserves for 6 years. In 1962, Marty and his high school friend, took a three-week vacation to Southern California. Marty fell in love with Los Angeles. When he returned to New York, he loudly proclaimed in Times Square for all to hear, "I will return to the West!" a short time later, Marty's proclamation came true. When he drove to Los Angeles with another good friend, he continued his career as a lithographic cameraman, becoming highly regarded in his field. His twin sons Eric and Steven were born in 1968. In 1977, Marty met Margaret Gelman who was his loving partner for the rest of his life. When Marty could no longer work in 2001, he devoted himself to his grandchildren who loved to climb all over "Papa" and he enjoyed his many friends and hobbies. Marty had a passion for refinishing wood pieces, bringing new life to them. He collected antique cameras and radios. His stain glass work was beautiful. He developed a passion for the computer which led him to various projects for friends and family to enjoy, including graphic designs, music, and DVDs/CDs. He also sold police department patches from all over the world on Ebay. Marty leaves behind his beloved children, Steven (Terri) and Eric (Irene) four beloved granddaughters, Kelsey, Paige, Carly and Leni, his life partner, Margaret "Maggi" Gelman, and his many devoted friends. His infectious laughter, kindness and love was a gift to all.
