Olga Margaret Elsner was born September 26, 1900, in Dresden, Germany, the daughter of Pius and Bertha (Thiele) Elsner. She moved with her family to the United States in 1902 and settled in Iowa before pioneering their family farm northwest of Marion, North Dakota in 1913.She married Richard C. Jongewaard on January 1, 1920, and they made their home on the Jongewaard family farm near Marion which was a three-generation farm. Richard died in 1981.Mrs. Jongewaard moved to the Gardenettes’ in Jamestown in April of 1992 and later moved to Central Dakota Village, also in Jamestown.Olga was a lifelong member of the North Reformed Church, Marion, and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading.She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jean Jongeward, Valley City, and eight grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.In addition to being preceded in death by her parents and huband, Olga was also preceded by her children, Bernice (Jongewaard) Schulz-1994 and Richard Jongeward, Jr. (Dick) 1988, along with one sister, Martha Krubeck and four brothers Louis, Otto, and Arno (Chink) Elsner all of Marion, North Dakota, and Fredrick (Fritz) of Oakes, North Dakota.Olga was the last surviving member of her family.Published in the Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, North Dakota, January 24, 1996.
