James F. "Jimmy" Bacon, age 85, of Rogersville, was born Nov. 19, 1922 Rogersville, Hawkins County and died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He worked at American Enka at Lowland for 37 years. Mr. Bacon was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army Air Force.
He was an avid golfer and followed the professional golfers, especially Miller Barber, they became good friends. Mr. Bacon enjoyed playing golf as well as helping others to learn the game. He also enjoyed working crossword and word search puzzles.
Mr. Bacon was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Minnie Bacon; brothers, Charles Bacon, J.D. Bacon, Haskell Bacon and Carl Bacon; sisters, Ada Bacon, Ruth Gulley and Bennie Long and brothers-in-law, Howard Long, John Gulley, J.K. Burton and D.M. Thurman.
He is survived by brother, Woody Bacon and wife, Shirley of Cordova, Tenn.; sisters, Anna Lee Thurman of Rogersville, Jeanne Burton of Kingsport, Joan "Sallie" Bacon of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and caregiver, Bernice.
