Family Notes:
1930 Mt. Pleasant City Directory lists Edward D. Ball as a night policeman.

Family stories have it that all the Ball boys were very tall and stout. When Ed became a policeman in Mt. Pleasant, he was known as, "Big Ed Ball, the cop" and is still remembered by that description by the old-timers.

Headstone under "Edward Ball," not Edwin, as he was commonly called Ed. Headstone also states his death date as 1950, which is the agreed date family members use.

"Death Claims Ex-City Officer: Ed D. Ball served City for 20 years".
Edward D. Ball, 814 North Lansing, member of the city police force for 20 years, died this morning in the Central Michigan Community Hospital. Going on 71 years of age, he had been seriously ill for two weeks and in poor health for the past three years.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, Sept. 26, 1879, Mr. Ball worked in Detroit shops for 18 years before returning here to join the police force in May 1927. He and one other patrolman made up the "force."
Poor health and advanced years brought his request for retirement under the city employee pension plan which was approved as of Dec. 1, 1947.
Surviving besides his wife, Agnes, and five daughters, Marvel Mahoney of Detroit, Glenora Moss, Ismerie Galgoczi, Vergeline Van Ommeren and Lina Ruth, all of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Thomas of Kalamazoo, Richard of Midland and Edward of Los Angeles, Calif. and one brother, C. H. Ball, of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held from the Stinson chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial in Riverside.
