Loren was the only child born to Herbert and Peggy (Bauer) Adkins. Loren enjoyed skiing, hiking, climbing, photography, bicycling, and inventing. Well into his seventies he was still competing in skiing, was a nationally-ranked bicyclist and won many sporting awards. In 1984 Loren became "Athlete of the Year.", in the 75-79 age class. He was well known around the Sun Valley Idaho area and was on the cover of Sun Valley Magazine.
