Matt Zima, 83, veteran carpenter-contractor, died unexpectedly Wednesday
afternoon at 1802 Menasha Ave., Manitowoc, where he had resided for years
with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Suster.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
Home, Manitowoc, and at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The
Rev. E.A. Radey will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Zima was born at Stangelville, Kewanee County, July 22, 1876 son of
the late Charles and Anna Rebitz Zima. In 1899, he married Mary Mazanec at
Stangelville where he followed the carpenter trade until moving to Mishicot
10 years later.
While engaged in farming, Mr. Zima became a carpenter contractor and over
the years erected many barns in the Mishicot, Tisch Mills and Stangelville
area. He also built St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishicot State Bank and an
addition to Mishicot High School.
Mr. Zima, a member of Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Catholic Church,
came to Manitowoc in 1930. Mrs. Zima died in 1941.
He is survived by two sons, Edward of Manitowoc and Carl of Mishicot; a
daughter, Mrs. Victor Suster of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Dufek
of Denmark and Mrs. Emil Buresh of Milwaukee; six grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. A son, Joseph, died three years ago.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday where the Rosary
will be recited by the Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Church at 8 p.m.
