Erle W. (Woody) Young, 53, of 2818 Harding Pl., Manitowoc, died Monday morning
after a heart attack. He was dead on arrival at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Clement P.
Kern will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Young was born Oct. 9, 1913, at Lewiston, Ill., son of the late Jacob and
Edna Fitzhenry Young. After attending schools at Lewiston he served with the
Navy from Nov. 25, 1942, until Oct. 12, 1945. He was discharged with the rank
aviation machinist mate flight second class.
He married the former Mary Ann Galbraith at Star of the Sea Catholic Church,
San Francisco, Calif. The couple located at Big Bear Lake, Calif., until 1950
when it moved to Lewiston. They have resided at Manitowoc since 1958. Mr. Young
was employed as a carpenter layout loft filler at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Robert, attending the University of
Wisconsin, Madison, and Jake, at home; three brothers, John, Arthur and Myron,
of Lewiston and two sisters, Mrs. Harold Wherley, of Lewiston and Mrs. Guy Winks,
in Germany.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary
will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Graveside rites will be conducted by Drews-Bleser
American Legion Post No. 88.
