Washington Irving Wright III, affectionately known as "Earp," went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2010.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1947 to Washington Irving Wright Jr. and Hilda Grace Walker at Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly.

Irving was baptized at an early age under the pastorate of his grandfather, the late Reverend W. I. Wright, Sr. and later renewed his commitment at the Wayside Community Church in Burlington. He was diligent in his calling as a "doorkeeper in the house of the Lord" and also very committed to the Men's Ministry until he was no longer able to participate due to illness.

Irving attended the public schools in Burlington City until he moved with his family to Philadelphia.

Irving was employed for many years as an orderly at Ancora Hospital in South Jersey. He then returned to Philadelphia and became a master painter at which he was very gifted.

He was an informal "musicologist" able to give relevant data on any group or musician from the 1960s to the 1990s. He also was a faithful volunteer and loved working with Sisterhood, Inc. located in the City of Burlington.

He is survived by his three children: Dottie and Irving Wright IV of Clayton, N.J., and Elyse Wright of Vincentown; and six grandchildren. Irving had five sisters: Min. Janet Vaughn (deceased), Rev. Sandra Crump (Maurice), Rev. Hilda Covington (Theodore), Rosemary, Sharon (Lawrence), and one brother, Hassan. He had special cousins: Suzanne Woodard, Blake O'Farrow (Peggy), Pat Siler (Gene) and Anita Bryant. Irving had a host of nieces and nephews, and other blood and adopted family, and a never-ending group of caring friends.

There was an initial viewing held at W.R. Woody Funeral Home, High Street, Burlington.

There was a second viewing at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, Broad Street, Burlington.

The formal home going service had Pastor Hilda J. Covington, officiating.
