"Ruth" was nickmaned "Ruth", by her oldest brother, Jesse Dempster Wright at birth. Jesse had wanted a baby sister, and specifically wanted her to be named "Ruth". He was VERY disappointed, when his parents named their new daughter "Flora Belle", after her mother, Flora Belle Cook Wright.

Jesse drowned in November, 1913, and his sister was immediately, and permanently, called Ruth by everyone in the family.

"Ruth Wright was married many times. 1st to John Richard Beyerle, in June 1931. They had one son, who remained with his father after their divorce.

She married Lynton Norman Stewart in January 1936, and they had 3 children. Lynton Norman had a long term affair with a coworker, and his wife divorced him in October 1945 and got their 3 children.

She married William Thomas Peck, about 1947/1948, and they were divorced by about 1951.

She married B. E. Tabor in Reno, NV about 1951, and they were divorced by 1953. While her next husband was in prison, she lived with B.E. Tabor, who supported her and her son. Tabor was the only "Father" that her youngest son ever had.

She married Truman Adonis Williams, a multiply convicted criminal and a VERY brutal man, by November 1953. She adored him, but he was brutal to his step children, attempting to rape his step-daughter, raping his youngest step-son, beating his youngest step-son repeatedly, etc. They remained married until about 1964, when he finally deserted her. He had spent approximately 75% of the time they were married in prison, which I suspect was responsible for the length of their marriage.

She married a gay man from Australia, in the late 1960's - early 1970's, so that he would not be deported. This was a sham marriage in every respect.

She claimed at least two other marriages, but the family has no information on who,or when/where such marriages may have taken place. I personally have no doubt they existed.

For whatever reason, she began using the Stewart surname again, for the last few years before her death. She died horribly, of virtually untreated lung cancer (she was a multiple pack per day smoker). She had refused to seek out any treatment, until her daughter discovered how sick she was and forced her to move into her home and got her mother some treatment.

After her death, she was cremated, and at her specific request, her ashes were scattered over Jesse Dempster Wright's grave at the Santiam Central Cemetery. I do not believe that any permission to do this was sought, it was just done.

She was my mother, an "interesting character", to say the least. She was extremely bright, very pretty, and had the morals of a Cobra. She always looked out for number 1 first and foremost. She was cruel and indifferent to her children, but God help anyone from outside the family that attempted to harm them.

She told all of her children to get educations, emphasizing that nobody could ever take an education from you. Yet, we moved constantly, changing schools like some people change clothing. Her two youngest children never were able to finish High School, but enlisted in the Armed Forces to get away from the chaos.

And yet, her eldest child became an engineer, her youngest child earned his doctorate, and her middle child became an Insurance Executive. As I say, she was an "interesting character".
