Mrs. Wilson's obituary:
SHELBY — Mrs. Mary Thompson Wilson, 89, of 210 Lee St., died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Thaddeus Edward and Almeda Bettis Thompson. She graduated from Blacksburg High School, Class of 1933. She had been a member of First Baptist Church, Shelby since her marriage to the late R.K. Wilson in 1937. She was a member of the Love Sunday School Class and the Mary C. Robertson Bible Study. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 101 at First Baptist, which was founded by her late husband.
She was an active and devoted member for many years of the American Red Cross and was awarded the Margaret Noell Award for Most Outstanding Female Volunteer in 1990. She had also been active in the American Legion Auxiliary, having served as President, as well as Chairman of the Girls State Scholarship Committee, and enjoyed selling poppies to honor our military on Memorial Day. She was a member of the Elks Auxiliary and served as Secretary at the Senior Center. She enjoyed membership in the Cleveland Guards Chapter No. 443 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was a charter member of Broad River Genealogical Society.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Byers, Marie Moss and Dorothy Richards; and four brothers, Bee Thompson, Fred Thompson, Clyde Thompson and Zeb Thompson.
She is survived by a daughter,two sons, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. before the service.
