WILLIAM P. WIEBOLDT SR. (d. 1897)

Death Sun. evening, after a long illness with consumption, of
P. W. Wieboldt, a well-known resident of our city. He was born
11 Feb. 1836 in the Province of Hanover and came to America in
1859. After a year in Calif. and New York, he settled in Town
Newton on a farm. He later came to Manitowoc where he opened a
store. He served many years as a Justice of the Peace and was
once Marshall of our city, once our postmaster, and served in
the Assembly of the State Legislature. He is survived by his
widow and 3 grown children. The funeral took place yesterday
at the city cemetery.

P.W. Wieboldt of this city died on Sunday last. He had been in ill health
for some time. He was born at Hanover, Germany, February 10, 1836,
and came to this country in 1849 settling in New York. In 1851 he went
to California but returned to New York and soon after came to this county
settling in Newton, where he engaged in farming. Soo after he moved to
Manitowoc and engaged in the mercantile and wheat buying business but
was burned out. He was undersheriff during the years 1880-1, was chief of
police for a term, and justice of the peace for a number of years. He leaves
a wife and three children. He was a man of large intellectual capacity, generous
and true to his friends.
