ALBERT WHITNEY, FORMERLY OF PHIPPSBURG, A SUICIDE

General surprise is caused in Routt county by the report from Eckley, in Morgan county, of the suicide of Albert Whitney, formerly of Phippsburg,
by shooting. For many years Whitney resided with his father, M. B. Whitney, on a ranch just south of Phipppsurg, and he was among the best own men in that section of the county. He left Routt county about five years ago to take charge of a general merchandise store in the eastern part of the state, established by a chain store company in which he had
become interested and which later failed. Since that time Whitney had
been in the drug business at Eckley, where he recently took charge of the
local newspaper, the Tribune.

While at Eckley Whitney had served as town marshal and water commissioner, and for the past year as town clerk. His suicide is said to have been caused by the discovery of a shortage of $850 in his official accounts, but his friends declare that they would gladly have assisted in making good the deficit.

Deceased is survived by his wife, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Blair of Phippsburg, and by two children, a daughter, aged 12, and a son, 10. Burial was at the old Whitney home in Jewell, Kans.
