William Amos Whitney, retired farmer, died late Tuesday night, November 10, 1953, at his home in Douglass. He had been ill since coming to town a year or more ago.
Mr. Whitney farmed for years about four miles east of Douglass. He was a leader in the Methodist Church here.
Funeral services for Amos Whitney, 91 year old retired farmer, who died Tuesday night of last week were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Douglass Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Karl O. Magnusson, pastor. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery, with Hilyard Funeral Home in charge. Singers were Miss Maude Haver, Mrs. W. G. Kunkel, Harry Robinson and Elmer Elder. Mrs. C. A. Ogg was organist.
Bearers were Edward Johnson, Will Bare, Everett Elliott, Dan Johnson, Harry Berg and Walter Young.
Mr. Whitney was born January 7, 1862 in Whitley County, Indiana. He came to this community about 70 years ago and farmed east of Douglass until coming to town 18 months ago.
Surviving are his wife Lillian, a son David (Medrith) Whitney, who farms the home place; one daughter Mrs. Flava (Leon) Woods, Mulvane; and three grandchildren.
