Cherokee Sentinel, May 29, 1925, page 1:

Mrs. Whitney Dead
Mrs. Clara Frances Whitney, wife of Mr. A.J. Whitney died at the family home in this city Monday, May 25th, 1925, at the age of 55 years, 7 months and 14 days. She had been ill for many months and the end was not unexpected.
She was born in Lynn county, Indiana, October 11th, 1869* [see footnote], and was married to Mr. A.J. Whitney October 11th, 1887.
To this union two children were born: Frank of Kansas City, and Mrs. Leona Stocker of Arcadia. These with the father are left to mourn her departure.
She joined the Christian church in 1886 and has taken an active part in its affairs, especially in the music.
She also belonged to the Fraternal Aid and the Security benefit Association.

Besides the husband and children she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Zelda Viers of Topeka and Mrs. Myrtle Stokes of Macon, Mo.; two brothers, Mr. Frank Holstine of Topeka and Mr. Jas. Holstine of Wichita; a step-father, J.H. Holstine of this city, and one grandchild, Jack Stocker of Arcadia.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. G.W. Corporan, assisted by Rev. M.R. Molesworth. A quartette composed of Misses Florence Hughes and Leota Webb and Messrs. Wm. Jewell and Luther Hargrove furnished the music and Mrs. Olin H. Curry sang "In the Valley of the Shadow," and Miss Hughes sang "In the Garden." The flower girls were Misses Ruth Clugston, Jessie Mae Clugston, Leota Hite, Ruth Mayberry, Bonnie Bowman and Pearl Sharp. Pall bearers were Messrs. Chas. Hite, Walter Clugston, Charles Bodlware, E.A. Brundage, Jesse Ester and John Dauren.

Interment was made in the Cherokee cemetery.
Mrs. Whitney has been a resident of this town for many years. Her children were born and raised to maturity here, attended our schools and churches. She has been active all her life and she will be missed by the whole town

*[footnote] Birth information provided was Lynn county, Indiana. There is no Lynn county in Indiana.
The date inscribed on the stone is 1868
The obit gave the year as 1869 and the 4 census records that were compared showed two years that it was 1869, one showed 1868 and the fourth showed 1870.
All of the above family names living in the household of J. H. Holstine were listed on the census records of 1870 but Clara's. Possibly she lived with her natural father at that point?
Any other information would be appreciated if interested.
