Mrs. Agnes Whitney Dies At Columbus
Mrs. Agnes Whitney, 73, who has lived in this vicinity nearly all of her life, died at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.E. Taylor in Columbus, after several years' illness, the last six months of which were serious. She had been at her daughter's home both at Oskaloosa and Columbus for many months.
She was born November 25, 1868, in Illinois, and came to Cherokee when quite young. She was a member of the Christian church here and of the Fidelity Life Association.
After her marriage she lived in Cherokee for many years and then the family moved to the farm in the Centerville neighborhood where they have since lived. She was one of the finest women we have ever known, and was loved by everyone.
She is survived by the widower, Lee Whitney; a son, Harry, and the daughter, Mrs. Taylor; a granddaughter, Miss Willa Lee Whitney of Kansas City; four half-brothers, W.M. and Hughie O'Neal of Weir, Paul of Frontenac, and Ed of California; three half-sisters, Mrs. Fanny Frazee of Columbus, Mrs. Clara Stephens of Tulsa and Mrs. Minnie Moran of Weir.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Wiley Risley in charge. Interment was in the Cherokee cemetery. Pallbearers were Damus Autem, Walter Autem, William Hooke,Charles F. Brown, Walter Clugston and John I. Dauron.
