Once thought to be the son of THOMAS & MARY (ROACH) WHITNEY, this is now being questioned. The identity of his first wife is unknown, but he married second, Sarah (Salmon) Ketcham, widow of Edward Ketcham probably while he was in Long Island.
He came to America some time before 1649 when The town record of Southold, Long Island states that he was associated with Edward Treadwell and my ancestor, THOMAS BENEDICT, in purchasing part of a tract of land at Hashamommock owned by William Salmon. He also lived in Huntington and Jamaica, Long Island. His occupation was that of a millwright.
He was a Norwalk in 1665 where at a town meeting on July 24, 1665, Henry Whitney agreed along with the town to build a mill to grind corn at the mouth of the Norwalk River. At the same meeting, a homelot was to be layed out upon the mill plain by Walter Haite and my ancestor, MATHEW MARVIN. Henry Whitney's named appeared in the Norwalk town records several times regarding such things as fence building, pound viewing, and being fined for "seizing rumm". He was propounded a freeman at Norwalk in 1669.
His last appearance n the town records was on May 9, 1672, when he along with others petitioned the court to form a new plantation (Danbury). He didn't live long enough to see this come to pass.
His will was written on June 5, 1672 and signed with his mark. He left all of his worldly estate to his beloved wife and only son, JOHN.The inventory of his estate took place on November 8, 1673 by John Plat, and two of my ancestors, MARKE SENTION, and JOHN BOWTON, being valued at 244 pounds and 6 shillings.
