~MY ANCESTOR~
The son of HENRY and SARAH WHITNEY, he married ELIZABETH SMITH, daughter of RICHARD SMITH, on March 17, 1675 in Norwalk.

According to the Ancient Historical Records of Norwalk entry dated Nov. 9, 1677, John Whitney, Sr. was the miller in Norwalk, as was his father before. He was appointed one of three men to decide where the bridge over the Norwalk River was to be built and to carry out the building of said bridge.

He was #39 in the order of lot division of the land over Norwalk River below the path leading to the Meadow field on December 12, 1687.

By 1690, the value of his estate was 110 pounds.
He is named in a deed dated September 30, 1708 conveying a tract of land south of Norwalk from the Ctoonah Sachem of Ramapoo Indians to those settlers named for the sum of one hundred pounds.

On October 25, 1697 it was voted and agreed that John Whitney, Ralph & Samuel Keeler were to build a gallery in the meeting house.
