Irene K. Whipple, 87, Neosho, died Oct. 19, 2011 in Neosho, following a short illness. Mrs. Whipple was born Jan. 12, 1924 in St. Francis, KS and had lived in Neosho many years, moving to Oklahoma 32 years ago and returning to Neosho 10 years ago. She had worked as a receptionist at Yuba Heat and Transfer in Tulsa, OK and at Rocketdyne in Neosho as a key punch and instructor of data processing. She was a life volunteer of the American Red Cross; a charter member of Colorado Rangerbred Horse Association; an avid square dancer; 4-H Leader volunteer; a member of the Oologah Oklahoma Eastern Star; a volunteer in many other civic organizations and a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church. Irene and Perry Donald Whipple were married on Jan. 11, 1942 in Kansas and he survives. Additional survivors include a son, Donald D. Whipple and wife, Karen, Baldwin City, KS; two daughters, Lindell Hughes and husband, Gerald, Neosho and Kathryn J. Sansom and husband, Ray, Safford, AZ; one sister, Lavera Mallet, Althol, MA; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by an infant son, Freddie Elton Whipple and two brothers, John and Ervin Schlepp.
