Ruth Elizabeth Westberg, age 81, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Ruth was born in Manitowoc on December 27, 1932 daughter of the late Charles A. and Julia (Carbon) Cizek. She attended Manitowoc public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1951. She graduated Cum Laude from Lawrence College Conservatory of Music in 1955 and taught in Menominee, Michigan, Manitowoc County Teachers College and Two Rivers Public Schools. She did graduate work at Silver Lake College.

Ruth married John R. Westberg of Marinette, WI in 1957 and they resided in Manitowoc after John graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout in Menominee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death April 5, 2009.

In her lifetime she served as president of several organizations including Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra board, the Community Concerts Association board, Manitowoc County Retired Educators Association, and chapters CD and EF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manitowoc.

Ruth loved gardening, reading, playing bridge, traveling and their special Labradors and cats.

Ruth is survived by her children: David J. Westberg of Charleston, South Carolina; Karen (Bob) Bryant, Cleveland, WI; two grandsons: Michael Bryant, Cleveland, WI; Justin Westberg, Houston, Texas; one granddaughter: Kaylynn (Josh) MacDonald, Cleveland, WI; special friend: Glenn Kerchefske, Sheboygan, WI; two nephews: Theodore Sweeney, Austin, Texas; Jeff Sweeney, Rhinelander, WI; first cousin: Liz Landig, Neenah, WI, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws: Ira and Hester Westberg, husband: John; one sister and brother-in-law: Edith (Leon) Sweeney.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 502 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer will officiate with burial of her cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on the church Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Manitowoc County Humane Society, the Capitol Civic Center or First Presbyterian Church in her name.
