Benjamin F. Werner, 71, of 1019 Philippen St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly
Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Werner was born April 27, 1909, at Manitowoc, son of the late Anton and
Veronica Werner. He grew up in Manitowoc where he attended schools and resided
all his life. He married Lucille Knechtel Oct. 5, 1929, at Waukegan, Ill. For
46 years he had been employed as a supervisor at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc.,
retiring in 1975. Mr. and Mrs. Werner celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
in October, 1979. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ; Manitowoc
Masonic Lodge No. 65, F and AM; Manitowoc Council No. 18 R SM; Manitowoc Chapter
No. 16, R.A.M.: Manitowoc Order of Eastern Star, United Commercial Travelers and
Boilermakers Union No. 443.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille, four sisters, Mrs. Theresa Carlson of Waukegan,
Ill., Mrs. Daniel (Augusta) Becker Jr. and Mrs. Viola Behnke of Manitowoc and Mrs.
Leona Van Lannen of Libertyville, Ill., and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and
five sisters preceded him death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and
Saturday until the time of service. A Masonic service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at
the funeral home.
