Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. A. T. Degner will officiate and burial will be
in Evergreen Cemetery. Rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. J. T.
Raschka at Baltimore.
Mr. Wernecke was born March 17, 1907, at Manitowoc, son of Carl H. and Charlotte
Rehbein Wernecke. He was graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1924,
and was employed by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., from 1927-38 in the engineering
department. He also operated Derby Hill Grocery Store for a number of years. Mr.
Wernecke was an alderman in 1934-37, moving then to the east coast. A member of
two singing societies, the Meister Singer Guild of Two Rivers and the Freier
Saunger Bund of Manitowoc. Mr. Wernecke often had been referred to as the
"singing alderman." He also had sung with Manitowoc Marine Band. At Baltimore,
he had been assistant chief engineer with Bethlehem Steel Co. He married Della
Heineman May 26, 1928, at Newtonburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Thomas and Richard L. of Patuxant, Md.; a
daughter, Barbara, of Baltimore; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wernecke, of Rt. 3,
Manitowoc; and three brothers, Werner C., Richard E. and Karl, of Manitowoc.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.
