MRS. WELKE DIES, AGE 86
Funeral Will Be Wednesday At St. John’s Church
Mrs. Amelia (sic) Welke, 86, a resident of Manitowoc for nearly 55 years, died
last night at the home, 719 South 18th street. She had been confined to her bed
for the last three weeks and had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek
and Schlei funeral home and at 3? p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical church.
Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Amelia Hildebrandt was born in Germany in
1848. Sixty-five years ago she was married there to August Welke and in 1881
they came to America and located in this city. Mr. Welke entered the employ
of the North Western road which he continued until his death in 1920.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Keup, San Franciso, Calif., Mrs.
O. E. Shong, Mohall, N.D., Mrs. George McLean, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. J.C.
McDevitt, Spokane, Wash.; three sons, Fred, Milwaukee, Frank, Hempstead, N.Y.,
William A. Dore, N.D.; a brother, Julius, Milwaukee; 40 grandchildren and 48
great grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home until
the hour of the funeral.
