Ward, one of the best known farmers of the western section of Red River County, reached Clarksville Saturday morning. Mr. Ward who was seventy-eight years of age, died Friday, and the body was buried in the Detroit cemetery at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon, following funeral service conducted by Rev. Henderson Brown, pastor of the Bagwell Methodist church., OBIT: DEPORT TIMES 30 Jun 1922, Friday, from microfilm in the Clarksville Library: John R. Ward, well known farmer of Detroit, died at his home Friday and was buried Saturday. They were farmers in the Manchester Woodland area. Their son became a doctor who eventually relocated to Greenville. The Ward family was one of the pioneer families of Red River County and listed in "Biographical Souvineer of the state of Texas"
