A Sad Affair
Thomas H. Walker, who committed suicide last Friday evening at 9 o’clock p.m., (May 1, ‘91) during a spell of temporary insanity, was born in the state of Pennsylvania in the year 1848. He arrived in Phillips county, Kan., and took a homestead near Matteson in Crystal township, in 1873. He was married to his first wife in 1876, and she died and was buried in the Agra cemetery in 1880. He has one child, a daughter by his first wife, now residing in Iowa. He came to Kirwin about five years ago, and became a partner with J. F. McIntyre in the furniture business, and married the second time a little more than two years ago, with which wife he leaves an infant son. Ever since he has conducted the furniture business in his own name. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. F. Markham, at the Congregational Church, last Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, and was listened to by a congregation much too large for the capacity of the church building. After the services of Rev. Markham, the I.O.O.F., of which order Mr. Walker was a member, conducted the closing ceremonies, took charge of remains, and followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives, was laid to rest in the Agra cemetery by the side of his first wife. Mr. Walker was generally respected.
