Captain Henry D. Wagner, age 68, of 2026 Granger Road, Manitowoc,
Wis., passed away Christmas morning, December 25, 1995, of an
apparent heart attack at the home of his son, David Wagner and
family in Waukesha, Wis.
Funeral Services will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral
Home on Thursday, December 28, 1995, at 11 a.m. Pastor Glenn Unke
of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate and burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Hank was born January 15, 1927, in Manitowoc, Wis., son of the late
Henry and Marie (Lorenz) Wagner. He was a grduate of Immanuel
Lutheran grade school and attended Lincoln High School. He married
Rose Millar on January 24, 1948. He worked as a seaman on the Great
Lakes for many years starting as a deckhand on the carferries and
working through the ranks to the position of Captain. He ended his
employment on the lower lake carriers with the American Steamship
Company. He retired in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; two sons and a daughter-in-law,
David and Judy Wagner, Waukesha, and Dale, of Manitowoc; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Patty and William Torsch, Manitowoc, and Susan and
Rick Hester, of Hernando, Miss.; four grandchildren, Dawn and Paul
Torsch, Manitowoc, and Jennifer and Jerrod Wagner, of Waukesha. Also
surviving is a brother, Richard, of Hockessin, Delaware; a sister,
Emma Liddell, Cedarburg, Wis., and a sister, Elaine and husband, Henry
(Jack) Welsch, of Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law, Jane Graves, of Memphis,
Tenn.; also nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1949, his mother in 1957, and
two sisters an infant sister, Rose, in 1928 and Marjoie (Wagner) Olson
in 1959, and aunts and uncles.
He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of
the Shipmasters Association.
Friends and relatives may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, on Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until
the time of service.
