Wade, Jonathan MI CALHOUN CO. MARSHALL 127 1840

Jonathan was born in Upper Canada and lived there until 1835. It seems that the opportunity came up for him to manage a grist mill and a hotel on the Huron, Michigan in 1836. (the writing is hard to understand in the family bible) He owned a grist mill (can't read the name of it) until 1848 or 1850. He then moved south of Katamazon River (not sure if it's spelled right) which was all woods at that time. He cleared the land for a farm and later cleared out some land for the present day Village of Douglas. He built the first hotel in Douglas and was the founder and proprietor of Douglas. Jonathan was the son of Jonathan Wade. Jonathan, Sr. was born in Vermont V.S.N.A. (whatever that stands for) and that he "was a sailor when a young man. In the early part of his life, he moved to upper Canada, near St. Thomas, and there he married and raised a family of 17 or 18 children.
