WM. VETTING DEATH AT 72
Pioneer Farmer, Cheesemaker To Be Buried Thursday
William Vetting, 72, pioneer farmer and cheesemaker, died Monday. He had been
in failing health for a long time and was a patient at the hospital for the
past four weeks.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the home, 1905 South 10th
street, and at 2 p.m. from the First Lutheran church. Interment will be at
Evergreen cemetery.
The deceased was born in this city in 1862 and in later years moved to Manitowoc
Rapids where he operated a cheese factory near English Lake for 19 years later
engaging in farming in that township.
Mr. Vetting established a record for high grade cheese and took a number of
blue ribbon awards at national expositions in the early years of the present
century. He retired from active business four years ago and moved to 1905 South
10th street in this city to reside.
The deceased was married to Ida Bremer in 1887. Survivors are his widow, two
daughters, Helene, Chicago and Mrs. Clarence Herwig, Wauwatosa, Wis.; seven sons,
Walter, George, Bruno, Hugo, of this county, Reinhardt and Harold at home and
Victor who resides in Michigan; two brothers, Fred of Denver, Colo., and Emil,
route 1, Manitowoc; and two sisters, Mrs. George Anderson, city, and Mrs. Louise
Schneider, Milwaukee. There are also 15 grandchildren.
The body was removed to the home on South 10th street this afternoon from the
Wattawa, Urbnaek and Schlei funeral home and may be viewed there up to the hour
of the funeral.
