ALFRED J. VAVRUNEK

Alfred J. Vavrunek, 63, of 728 N. 4th St., Manitowoc, formerly of 1101 Cherry
Road, Manitowoc, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 2, at Holy Family Hospital,
Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Parkside Funeral Home and 10 a.m.
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated by the Rev. William Zimmer and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Mr. Vavrunek was born April 27, 1919, at Two Rivers, son of the late Thomas and
Josephine Zobeck Vavrunek. He served with the United States Army overseas during
World War II. For several years, he owned and operated Vavrunek North End Market
in Two Rivers. He was then employed as a foreman at AMF Paragon, and after was
employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding, retiring in 1973. He married Lucille Drab,
Nov. 24, 1945, at Two Rivers. She preceded him in death Aug. 29, 1979. He then
married Mary Allgood Kumbalek, Sept. 4, 1981, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. Mr. Vavrunek was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Fred
Stone and Jean and James Typner of Manitowoc; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Kevin
and Melany Kumbalek of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Markowski of
Two Rivers, and Mrs. Frances Everson of Manitowoc; a stepbrother and sister-in-law,
Frank and Mary Yakoubeck; six grandchildren, Becky, Michael, Amy and Mark Stone,
and Robert and Steve Typner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was
preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday where a
prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. by Father Zimmer.
