Rose Mary Vande Castle, age 90, a resident of the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County.

Rose Mary was born on February 3, 1922 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Al and Mary (Kirby) Cavanaugh. She attended school in Maple Grove and graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. On April 14, 1950 she married Robert Vande Castle at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death in 1981. Rose Mary was a supervisor at Wisconsin Telephone Company and a switchboard operator at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. She was the oldest of 10 children and helped raise her siblings. Rose Mary was a generous person who cared for all, especially her family which she loved to spend time with. She was proud of her Irish heritage, even visiting Ireland after her retirement. Her favorite holiday was St. Patrick's Day.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Thomas and Christine Vande Castle, rural Manitowoc, three daughters and two sons-in-law: MaryAnn Vande Castle, Juneau, Alaska, Connie and Nick Griseto, Two Rivers, Julie and Dan Koch, Reedsville; six grandchildren: Faith (James) Robson, Melba, Idaho, Mark (Olivia) Vande Castle, Manitowoc, Amy (Luke) Duarte, Richland, WA, Lisa (Josh) Weiss, Richland, WA, Angela Koch, Eau Claire, Kiana Koch, Reedsville; six great-grandchildren: Analise Robson, Ellie and Lilly Duarte, Quinten and Mackenzie Weiss, Ephram Vande Castle; two brothers: John (Gail) Cavanaugh, Manitowoc, Robert (Luanne) Cavanaugh, Manitowoc; three sisters: Alice Baryenbruch, Howard, June Gallagher and Margie Friedland, both of Manitowoc; three sisters-in-law: Lucille Bergner, Manitowoc, Pauline (Jack) Kolodzik, New Holstein, Jane Cavanaugh, Clearwater, FL. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Eddie, Billy and Harold Cavanaugh; one sister: Rita Mrotek; seven brothers-in-law: Jim Gallagher, Jim Mrotek, Art Friedland, Richard Baryenbruch, Jimmy Vande Castle, Ray Vande Castle and Clarence Bergner; three sisters-in-law: Athlene Cavanaugh, Dorothy Kraft and Bernice Vande Castle.

Rose Mary has been cremated at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
